My Education
University of Chicago - BS, Biological Sciences
During the school year, I try to be very involved with extracurricular clubs but still make time to socialize with my friends. During the school year, I was a teaching assistant for Core Biology and was nominated for a teaching assistant award. Additionally, I have previous experience helping tutor my peers in both high school and college and am proficient in a wide range of sciences as well as math classes up to pre-calculus. Additionally, I tested in the top 4% in all my standardized testing (ACT, SAT and MCAT) and have a wide range of knowledge in test-taking strategies.

I received high marks for engaging and explaining key concepts to my students. I have also tutored friends and family members ranging from high school to medical school. I try to engage students at every step of a problem to ensure that they are not simply memorizing the answers but to ensure that they are understanding the problem at a fundamental level. Most importantly is the fact that I am a patient, understanding and easy-going individual. I try to make sessions as interesting and engaging as possible so as not to bore my students.

My Education
Illinois Institute of Technology - MS in progress, Physics
DePaul University - BS, Physics
I led laboratories as well as a discussion period to go over homework questions. Being a lifelong student of math and science, I think I have a strong understanding of students' frustrations with the subjects having experienced many of them myself at one point or another. I can provide a fresh perspective to students and help them view problems in different ways that teachers may not have the time to do. .

Certified Physics Tutor in Chicago, IL
My Education
University of Chicago - BA, Physics
Northwestern University - MA, Learning Sciences
There I studied Physics with a specialization in Astrophysics. I was very involved in the student physics organizations, published several papers about gamma rays, and traveled to South America to work on experiments. I then went to graduate school at Northwestern University, where I received my Master's Degree in Learning Sciences (which is like a degree in Education with an emphasis on public policy.) I focused mostly on better teaching practices outside the classroom, utilizing technology to teach, and getting girls interested in math and science. I have an informal, friendly teaching style. I like to show students that they CAN do physics and math, even if they have a mental block that says they're "bad at it" or "just can't do it." I try to show that the subjects fun and relatable, explaining why students would want to know things and why topics are useful even if they don't pursue a carer in math or the hard sciences. In my free time I listen to a lot of music, and I play a variety of stringed and percussive instruments.

While I expect hard work from a student, I am patient above all and listen before I lecture. I specialize in teaching standardized tests (ACT and SAT I and Subject Tests), math and statistics, writing, French, and economics. In my spare time, I run religiously, listen constantly to music, and read. I look forward to teaching students with Varsity Tutors!.

If I can get a student genuinely interested in the subject they are studying, then I am sure the better grades and test scores will follow. I am an unashamed Biology nerd, and I love all of Science in general. I have learned so much about the world and how amazing life is through these subjects and I want to pass that nerdiness onto others. I am also a big music nerd, and I love all styles of music- Pop/rock, classical, and opera included.

Studying with such a diverse group of people allowed me insight into the different ways people learn and think about studying. Also, a deep understanding of physics and mathematics was fundamental to mastering the engineering subjects I studied every day. My Methods: Everyone learns in different ways. The first thing I will try to do when tutoring is find out how YOU learn.

That was not without it's challenges initially, however. Due to my weak academic background from high school, I spent my first year and summer at school catching up to the typical physics program, and had to spend extra time learning the advanced mathematical techniques needed to succeed in the program. Towards the end of my four years, I had a chance to explore other areas I was interested in, such as theater design, music theory, and fencing. When I finished my BA program, I tried my hand at research. I spent a year working on a project with Fermilab working on locating the Higgs boson.
