Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began work on her 5 paragraph essay on the Civil War. This is not a research paper, but she does have to cite three pieces of evidence. We began with establishing her argument and choosing her supporting evidence. We then spent most of the session writing the introductory paragraph and making her thesis as strong as possible. I think we set up a good starting point for her to finish the essay. We plan to revisit it Tuesday night, the night before it's due, by which time she should have all of it written. Then we can focus on editing and the smaller points of grammar and word choice."
"We took a practice Science test, went over the answers and talked about pacing strategies. She also took a practice Reading exam. I left her a copy of my review book so she could review the English test. We also discussed what she felt would help her best prepare for the test on Saturday."
"The student stayed on top of the assignments I gave her. She does especially well with vocabulary. She is starting to understand how to break words down even better. Her greatest achievement has been in math. Tomorrow, I want to retest her in the exam book and monitor her improvement. I think she has been properly re-familiarized with the material and has also learned some of the material she has not seen before."
"We spent 2 hours prepping for the admissions test. First we went over a very difficult natural science passage on the reading section, specifically how he can tackle the harder passages on the actual test. Then we did a practice math section and went over problems that he got incorrect. Finally, we spent the last 25 minutest of the session going over the writing section the test."
"Today we covered the science section of the ACT test. This included question types and strategies for approaching each one of them. The student then took a science section test, finishing with 5 minutes to spare. We checked his answers, then reviewed over the ones he had missed."
"We practiced French introductions, basic vocabulary, and numbers. We will work specifically to have her see the connections with English instead of just memorizing the words. She did an excellent job on learning her numbers!"
