Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I completed a homework assignment today and we went through flashcards. His mastery and memorization of nouns is great, but verbs are a greater challenge to him. Monday we're going to start at the very beginning of German grammar, the basic endings of conjugated verbs, tenses, etc. and work our way from there. He still has homework and studying for retakes of tests."
"The student and I reviewed math concepts and started on reading comprehension. He has grade-level vocabulary and needs to work on identifying the main idea of passages. The student's understanding of making change with coins has really strengthened."
"We worked on the latest assignment this week. The topics were about finding zeros of polynomials and both factoring them and working in reverse from the factorization to the standard form. The reverse was easy for him. We had to use long polynomial division and the quadratic formula in order to find all the zeros/factors of the polynomial function."
"The student and I began with geometry and then moved onto biology. He has a geometry quiz tomorrow on similar triangles, so we went through his homework assignment and discussed a few problems."
"For this session, we continued with more practice problems from the previous lessons. He showed significant progress this session. I made sure to do a lot of practice problems and less lecture this session to be sure that the material is sticking with him. We covered all previous subjects; AR verbs, basic conversation, telling time, numbers, etc. I also introduced new vocabulary in regards to verbs associated with the verb "ser". He seems to be understanding the material and I am very content with his progress."
"We covered pretty much every basic programming concept, including if statements, switch statements, loops, methods, and arrays. I thought the student grasped concepts more quickly as we went through our session. He clearly understands what the computer is doing line-by-line, much more clearly than he did 24 hours ago. In particular, he caught on to what a method does and represents very quickly (this was toward the end), and the concept of an array doesn't seem to scare him (although I did hint at what an array is throughout our session). I recommended that the student do a practice exam within the time limit."
