Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began with a review of direct object pronouns which he learned last week. He struggled with it during our last session, so I had him do a fill-in-the-blank exercise followed by a translation activity that reminded him how these are used in Spanish. While he did this first activity, I checked over his homework. He only completed the homework halfway, which was to write sentences in the cheat sheet. I typed in my edits and requests for more sentences, so that is what he will be assigned tonight. We learned affirmative tu commands today as a new grammar item, and did a lot of practice on both of these topics."
"The student was on spring break so had no homework. We practiced speaking in Spanish using conversational topics which used several different verb tenses. We also reviewed preterite vs imperfect verb tense, and looked at sentences and a paragraph in which she had to decide which verb tense to use and conjugate it correctly. Next, we reviewed the subjunctive. We looked at several sentences and she had to decide if subjunctive or present tense was appropriate, and then correctly conjugate it. Last, we read two fairy tales in Spanish and answered comprehension questions at the end. We took turns reading so she got practice in both active listening and reading skills."
"By reading a passage we uncovered old vocabulary that the student has forgotten along the way. We reviewed these words, and I assigned homework on them. Also, we worked on comprehension of text without knowing the translation of every word. Allowing for the use of context to help with a general understanding."
