Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on rounding large and small numbers and identifying place values. I finished the session explaining how rounding numbers relates to scientific notation and significant figures."
"I helped the student finish some homework problems for the last section that will be covered on her test on Wednesday. We then went over review problems from chapter 2."
"The student wanted to review some problems she had missed on her final (she got an 88%) for her to do her test corrections. We walked through how to find the domain of 1/(x+4). For another problem, she was given the graph of a quadratic function and 3 points and was asked to find the corresponding equation. Her class started a new unit on exponential functions last week, so we did several problems together such as using guess and check to find the fifth root of 243 and how to solve for variables such as x^6=64 and 8^x=2^2x-3. She demonstrated her understanding by doing the same steps for other problems on her homework in addition to the one we walked through together."
"Concepts Covered: 1) Finding intervals of increase and decrease ; 2) Determining the concavity of a function ; and 3) I also administered and corrected a calculus test based on concepts covered."
"We reviewed quiz results on the limits of a function and worked on finding the derivative of a function using derivative rules."
"The student began a new section of calculus after her first midterm. The first portion of the class covered theory and fundamentals of calculus. The course now has moved on to a more functional calculus, utilizing tools in determining derivatives. In working through her homework, it was apparent that she has excelled in determining derivatives learning to utilize the product rule, quotient rule, power rule and chain rule. These are fundamentals of calculus that will help her to excel in later stages of calculus and mathematics. She needs practice and repetition to fully grasp and understand these concepts. As she attempts more practice problems, she will improve her algebra and basic calculus to a point where she can be successful on exams."
