Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"With the student, we completed several Chemistry and Biology testing problems from the online practice problem platform. Since she has not received her practice workbooks as of yet, we had to use the online system. I am hoping that she will receive the books sometime this week and she will be able to complete the assignment by our next session on Saturday."
"The student and I reviewed topics in physics, general chemistry, and biochemistry. We focused a lot of time on thermodynamics, physical chemistry (i.e., phase changes), and gas laws. We reviewed the physical science section of her most recent test."
"We reviewed verbal passages from the student's last full-length MCAT, including discussing strategies for approaching questions and deciphering ambiguous language. He has a lot of initiative and is autodidactic, so my goal as a tutor will be to give him tools to help him through the critical thinking process, rather than lecturing."
"We went over a variety of topics including the Digestive Tract, Respiratory System, Test taking strategies, Enzyme kinetics. Her attitude is great and she works hard. We have come up with a study plan for her."
"Today we worked on concepts from biochemistry and genetics. We discussed inhibition, catalysis, macromolecules and how they fit into the general logic of molecular biology. In genetics we discussed Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, when it applies, and how to use the formulas. Next week we hope to work on practice problems from the student's book."
"We went over the last portion of solutions. We then went over acids and bases. Definitions for acids and bases, Ka, Kb, pKa, pKb, Kw, strong acids and weak acids, strong bases and weak bases, and titration curves. No concerns."
"The student had reviewed the next couple of chapters on her own and worked through the problems beforehand, so we just talked through a few of the concepts that were giving her a hard time. We reviewed some thermochemistry, phase changes, and solutions."
"The student and I covered the conclusion of the phase change chapter, and finished the organic chemistry chapter on oxygen-containing reactions. I left him with some topic-appropriate homework, and will meet with him next week."
