Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session was spent going over any new assignments the student had for his classes. Since it was his first day back from break, we continued working on the paragraph that I had assigned the previous session, as well as reviewed vocabulary. We also touched on Romeo and Juliet, act 1."
"We read an article about people's reaction to the Boston's Marathon explosion and how people team up to support others."
"This was a make-up session. We finished the first part of Chapter 12, which is about the etiquette in Chinese restaurants. Since the student has been in China, he is familiar with the common dishes. We had a fun session."
"The student took the test today that covered all new characters from lessons 1 through 4. Then, we went over lesson 5, and homework was assigned."
"This was split into two sessions: Monday and Wednesday. Over the course of two sessions, we covered how to say times and dates. I drilled the student on how to say "today's date is ___," "tomorrow's date is ____," "yesterday's date was ____." I also taught him how to say what time it is, AM/PM/afternoon, and the difference between half hour and minute."
"Today, we went through some more lessons and then completed the student's midterm exams. He did quite well with the new vocabulary involving directions and parts of the face. On the midterm, he was most comfortable with the newer material."
"Went over writings for big and small. Watched videos on Chinese songs. Taught her colors in Chinese."
"The theme of the session was Self-Introduction. I helped the student describe where he came from, where he went to school, the places he has visited, his hobbies, and his current job. I explained the vocabulary words I had previously sent him prior to the session and their correct uses. For the last bit of the session, we looked at a video clip of a Chinese TV program explaining cuisine, and we went over the colloquial sayings and Chinese proverbs that he was unfamiliar with."
"Today we reviewed the student's "Self-Introduction," and I introduced the numbers from 100-999. We also went over dialogues such as "Do you have free time?""
"We went through the whole book (12 lessons) briefly first, and put more emphasis on the last 6 lessons. The student said we needed to put emphasis on the last 6 lessons to prepare for the final. We went through ''final review'' given by her teacher. Since final exam (which is coming soon) will have oral and written parts, we practiced oral conversations using the contents in the final review. I asked her to practice writing the characters and sentences during the next week before next session."
"We continued our focus on "question words," introducing the words for "why" and "when" and drilling some examples for each."
"We learned a new question word: "Who?" and we practiced using this word by looking at photos of friends and family members. We reviewed dates and birthdays."
