"We first went over how to do expanded multiplication for the student's math class. She seemed to understand the material. The rest of the session was spent teaching about the Roman Empire. I went over a summary of the history of the Roman Empire, as well as how the system of government functioned and why it was able to expand so effectively. The student was very interested in the Roman Empire and asked plenty of questions about it. Overall, the session went very well."
"Today, the student and I studied for his upcoming history exam by going through his Amendment, Constitution and other US History terms. We also spent a good amount of time talking about his thesis and topic sentences for an upcoming essay."
"We did a History reading with questions and a trig assignment. We then read chapter 7 of "Lord of the Flies" and answered questions based on the chapter."
"I started today's session working with the student on analyzing a poem. We first read the poem, discussed what it meant to us and why, and then answered the associated analytical questions from the back of the section. After reading the poem, we decided that the author was discussing how he thought disorder was not a bad thing, but rather helped illustrate the beauty of an object. Furthermore, we both felt that the poet was probably making a social statement with his poem as it was written in the late 1800s when fashion and order were stringently being emphasized."
"Reviewed timeline and chapter notes for history final. Worked through map and land cessions, major concepts and events from the creation of the constitution to the 1850's."
"The student and I went over his final review for his history exam. We went over Watergate and the Iran-Contra affair among other things. His exam is covering Nixon to Reagan."
"History: Completed Westward Expansion packet/study guide for Tuesday. Biology: Reviewed steps for the scientific method/process for quiz tomorrow. English: Practiced and refined presentation on "How to catch a football" for class tomorrow. Wednesday: We will discuss lab report, continue with history packet, and review geometry quiz."
"We started by taking a look at the student's book report, due tomorrow, and discussing her plan for finishing it. We then looked at an outline for religion, learning how to format it and polish her language. We spent a good amount of time on taking notes for history. I encouraged her to put things in her own words and make sure she understood all the terms she wrote down. Finally, we looked at her math homework on rational numbers. Overall, she is very bright and picks up on patterns quickly, but she needs to slow down and pay more attention to the details. We will focus more in the future on slowing down and checking her work, especially for spelling."
"The student and I went over two sections of his American history book using a PowerPoint that I created in advance. He took notes during the session and we agreed to meet on Thursday."
