Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed subject verb agreement today. We then went over the student's vocabulary words and he composed sentences for me. They were done well. We worked on a parallel structure exercise and he was 100% accurate with it. I am going to create a good skills test for Friday."
"This session, the student and I worked through short answer questions and researched and outlined a college essay. The essay considers the fit of the college. We found a computer-based community service activity. In addition, we discussed a computer science club which focuses on food, and even considers a bit of philosophy. In terms of academic opportunities, we discussed professors, research opportunities and requirement structure at this school. We also began by including applicable personal anecdotes. For next time, we will review drafts of these essays based on outlines and research. We will continue refining."
"During this second session, I continued to revise the student's remaining two essays for the program. The first essay prompt was related to describing your biggest achievements and the second essay was more creative, asking the student to describe what they would do in an alien encounter. I completed one revision of each draft and sent her the comments and corrections via e-mail. Her writing improved with these two essays significantly, particularly with the third essay. Most of the corrections I made were related to tense shifts and run-on sentences. She demonstrated a talent for fiction writing in the third essay, and I would definitely encourage her to continue."
