Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on PreCalc for about half an hour today - just going over her review packet on translations, reflections, and dilations in preparation for her test later this week. We spent the last hour on Physics. She worked on vector addition - drawing pictures, breaking things up into x and y components, summing, and finding the magnitude and direction of the resultant vector."
"Extension of Commutative and Associative properties of Addition and Multiplication to Rational numbers (with proofs). Extension of Properties of Equality to Rational numbers. Application of Reciprocals to the solving of Linear Equations."
"We reviewed math topics. Primarily we went over how to double check graphing work. The student creates really accurate graphs and can use that to double check the arithmetic. We discussed scheduling sessions for ongoing math practice."
"I presented the info on flash cards I had prepared regarding "Oral History" and "Gender and History." I gave him several minutes to review the cards, so that I could then test his memory and understanding of the chapter content. We reviewed the meanings of several academic words, including "dichotomy." I gave him blank flashcards to finish writing the "Gender and History" notes on his own, in preparation for the following day's in-class précis writing."
"We reviewed systems of equations, finding z-scores and reading tables to be able to answer questions regarding these on the final. After looking at a few examples, the student really got these down to where he could work the problem from beginning to end without prompts from me."
"We went over the student's last practice exam in the PS, CARS and BS sections, as well as passages involving the real gas equation, and separations and purifications. Overall, I thought that her content base and the way that she approaches and reasons through questions to be strong and quite excellent, respectively. She is confident when she approaches the questions. We will continue to go over more practice exams going forward."
