Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I started working on recursion. Recursion is the most complicated concept in computer science, and we will continue working on recursion in our next session. We are making good progress though, and I think he is starting to get it."
"The student and I went over his assignment related to students, a seating chart, and the frequency of their class attendance. We covered concepts such as nested loops, transposing arraylists to 2D arrays, and accessing and modifying objects inside of a 2D array."
"The student is working on the Magpie chatbot programming lab for her class. We covered parts 1 and 2 for the lab, which involved evaluating and editing the code and adding functionality. We mainly worked on writing conditional statements. We wrote code to find all occurrences of a word in a longer string."
"Today, the student and I worked on AP Computer Science: Picture Lab. We touched on UML diagrams, inheritance, constructors, interfaces, arguments, variable naming, type hierarchy, and unit testing. And of course, image manipulation. She seemed receptive and willing to listen. She asked questions, and seemed to understand concepts well. She took initiative and appeared to be much more confident in certain fundamentals than before. She seems to quickly grow more comfortable with syntax and program flow. She finished the lab assignment, and attempted the challenge exercise."
"This session was devoted to working through a final assignment with the student. It was a binary tree application, implementing insertion and retrieval. I also gave a general lecture on binary tree implementation. We closed with some review of concepts for the AP exam."
"During this session, the student and I started going over some questions on a practice AP exam. It was good practice. I reminded him to take his time and try to get the correct answers. I also let him know that he can reach out to me if he has any questions. Overall, this was a good session."
