Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over solving quadratic equations using factoring. It took a while, but after about an hour the student seemed to have the hang of it. We then went over DNA Replication for Biology."
"We covered inequalities today. The student continues to struggle with remembering how to order steps to solve problems. After working through 5-10 problems, he began to remember how to do the problems which built more confidence, but he still struggles with the basics of math problems, especially with subtraction and multiplication. The student should work on memorizing math facts in order to help with getting through the harder math equations that will come."
"We worked on skills I assumed the student knew - adding and subtracting fractions, factoring equations, working with exponents. He did not do the homework I had assigned him on Monday, and I told him to do it for next Monday. I am concerned about how poor his math skills are and that he will not be able to gain enough skills and practice before the test in 2.5 weeks. He is doing better with polynomials."
"On our third session, we finished the student's unit for Arithmetic and Geometric sequences and series. We expanded our understanding of these sequences due to the versatility of the problem to solve. We also moved on to study rational equations, testing for asymptotes, and finding inverse relationships between variables. Covering sequences and series took up most of the time but we sped up as soon as we changed to rational equations."
"The student and I completed her work on the double-angle formulas to begin today. We then moved very swiftly through an assignment over solving trigonometric equations; she picked up on this concept almost instantly, and made far fewer rushed mistakes than usual. This completes her new material for the year; next time we will prepare for her final exam."
"We worked on inverse trig functions and graphing polar equations. The student is at the point where he has an understanding of all the concepts, it just needs to be polished a bit. I'm working with him on keeping his work neat and self checking strategies. He has a good attitude."
