Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued to go through the material from the first two prelims. We specifically focused on theories of intelligence, theories of human development, and memory. I encouraged him to read over the study guide several times to retain the information, and I am also beginning to quiz him on concepts that we have already reviewed so that he can gauge how much he still needs to review."
"We went through the breadth of cellular respiration, touching on the various processes (glycolysis, Krebs cycle, oxidative phosphorylation) and their details. Once the student refreshed on these topics, she had a stronger grasp on them. We practiced through sections of example questions, where she also did well. I encouraged her to continue to review from the Cliff's AP Bio PDF as well as her notes and the textbook for any areas with which she doesn't feel 100%. The practice questions in the PDF will be great self-testing material. She will do well on the midterm."
"This session we did chapter review with some PowerPoint slides from the student's class. We covered chapters 1-6, which included basic chemistry, molecule structure, proteins, polysaccharides and cell structure. The student has a solid basic understanding of the concepts."
"The student and I reviewed light and matter problems and discussed the correlations of wavelength and energy/temperature/magnitude with mention of constructive and destructive interference that occurs during diffraction. We also discussed the Bohr model theory and the photoelectric effect as well as how to calculate the maximum wavelength that has sufficient energy to cause ionization."
"This was my first meeting with the student. He is very smart and is a good problem-solver, but he is a bit discouraged about chemistry. He worked on his homework assignment, which covered conservation of mass and calculations like mass percentages and empirical formulas. He also worked a number of dimensional analysis problems. We plan to meet again on Monday."
"The student went over her lab packet (decomposition reactions and %mass), as well as a review packet (acid/base chemistry, pH, decomposition reactions, % mass). She seemed to grasp the concepts after I did a sample problem. She did initially have some trouble following my explanations, but after I went over it again, she was better able to understand. Also, she was able to calculations after I did sample problems."
