Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has an Algebra quiz tomorrow so tonight I helped her review the material and gain a more solid understanding of exponents. She had the idea to make flashcards as learning tools for the Algebra material. Next we spent time taking notes on about 15 pages from a Physics handout. At the end we set goals for this week. We established about 6 other goals for the week. "
"In this session we covered 'dolch' words. There were three sets of words that gradually became harder, but she was able to pronounce them. She struggled a little but was able to see the mistake after reviewing. Afterwards, she was given a set of words to form into sentences. With some help, she was able to combine the words and form the appropriate sentence. "
"In this session, we went over the student's past homework that he had done since our last meeting. Next, we went over a worksheet that covered acids and bases. This included finding the weakest acid/base, determining if it was a Lewis acid/base or Lowry-Bronsted acid/base. In addition we covered acid/base dilutions. Finally, we set up the next tutoring session."
"The student took another practice test today and did better than yesterday. We discussed several specific questions she had brought to the session. She then finished a set of games she began yesterday and she figured them more quickly as her time management skills improved. Taking a few more practice tests should also help her improve her time management skills. She then did several logical reasoning questions, and we'll pick up with those on our next session."
"I graded and reviewed 5 exercises on nouns and use of possessive. Then I reviewed paragraph writing with the student and read the assignment I had given him last week. His essay was to have included at least 5 paragraphs and he had to use all 4 types of sentences: declarative, interrogative, exclamatory and imperative."
"Now that the student's oral state assessment test is over, we continued reviewing for his written state test. In addition to the two writing prompts his teacher provided us, there was also a workbook assignment that reinforced the vocabulary the class is currently working on. Overall, I'm impressed with the student's improvement in reading comprehension. He still definitely gets tripped up on certain vocabulary, but his sense of the meaning of each sentence has improved greatly."
