Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I started this session with the student by going over flashcards for his vocabulary test tomorrow. We went through the flashcards going from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English. We then practiced conjugating the verbs that are a part of his current vocabulary. After going over verb conjugations we practiced the irregular verbs tener and gustar. We then went back over his vocabulary utilizing tener to say phrases involving various vocabulary words. By the end of the session he not only showed that he was prepared for his vocabulary exam, but also that fully understood how "ar", "er" and "ir" verbs are conjugated."
"In this session, I helped the student out on her review for the final exam. We started with the word problems as she feels least confident about them. I showed here and got her started on them and explained a few tips to help. I explained that drawing a simple diagram or picture will help her know what formulas to take advantage of. I also helped the student out with logarithmic expressions. She had missed a class and hadn't learned how to utilize log properties. I showed her a few examples and explained how to do them. I also showed her the section of her book that explains log properties so she knew what to study. We covered other areas in her review, but she needed very little help on them. It was mainly word problems and Logarithms that she needed help on. Provided she practices those sections, she will do well on the final exam."
"We went through Implicit differentiation today. The student is starting to get it with the more formulaic mindset. We also kept reviewing graphs as that will be needed come test time."
"The student completed a full practice test and did extremely well on the reading (730) and the writing (790), and better on the math than previously (600). We will continue to practice math primarily in advance of the SAT. She and her mother are also interested in exploring the ACT. I sent the student a sample ACT to try. After the SAT, we might schedule a few sessions to prepare for the ACT."
"The student and I used critical thinking for his math problem solving journal and also reviewed his math homework. He seems to be doing better in his classes. He is scoring much higher on his exams. Hopefully this trend continues!"
"This is a few lessons rolled into one! We've been studying like crazy for the student's exam. It's tough material, but I was able to help the student come to a pretty firm understanding of how she's supposed to go about solving these problems."
