Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed multiplying decimals. Decimals Multiplication: two tests 100% and 89% score. Defining appropriate units: some minor confusion with multi-step problems. Excellent work converting units. Recognizing rays, lines, and line segments: excellent work. Prime Factorization: excellent work. Multiplying and dividing scientific notation: I explained he rules of multiplying and dividing exponents, we reviewed scientific notation, and she did excellent work. Writing and interpreting decimals: some confusion with multi-part problems but overall excellent work. Estimating square roots: excellent work."
"We finished questions related to his history homework. We completed his math homework that tested his ability to find the perimeter of various polygons and work with fractions/mixed numbers. Last, we reviewed his completed narrative composition. I provided him with literary examples of a narrative and offered advice that could improve his writing."
"During this session the student and I covered her math homework. I showed her how to simplify ratios and how to solve equations with exponents and parenthesis (order of operations). We also went over how to find the area and circumference of a circle."
"Today reviewed the Pythagorean Theorem; she forget some of the steps but after I explained it, she was able to successfully complete two problems. We worked on a worksheet that I provided that covers various items (ratios, volume, fractions, etc.) that are on the test. She did pretty well and caught on quickly to the items she did not initially understand. I left her with a multiplication worksheet to work on and increase her speed regarding multiplication. No concerns regarding this session."
"Worked on circle angle problems from school, fixing a basic algebra mistake. Reviewed potential energy graphs for chemistry and completed online assignment. Finalized plans for poetry assignment at conclusion of lesson."
"Multiplication drill with some division. Extensive work on word problems, determining when to use different operations. She still has trouble with this, but I think we made some progress today."
"Focused on correcting work from past quizzes. Looked at module 8 and how to handle negative integers when adding and subtracting. Practiced by reviewing homework and doing additional work. Assigned Sudoku problem with negative numbers as extension assignment."
"We covered double bar graphs, stem and leaf, mode, median, mean, and graph comparisons. We went over her math homework together and she is proficient in graphing. I explained how to distinguish which is the independent and dependent variable. She struggled a bit with the different diagrams to find mode, median, and mean so we went over a few practice problems until she felt comfortable and confident."
"The student had 5 math homeworks to complete. The homeworks were on Exponential Expressions, Scientific Notation, Exponential Growth and Decay. The student was good with the topics, and was able to complete the homeworks without any major mistakes."
"The student and I worked on a homework assignment in which she had to add up monthly expenses, calculate the percent of each expense, convert the percentage into degrees and construct a pie chart of the results. She also had to use the chart to answer several analysis questions. She needed help converting the percentages to degrees for the chart, but once she knew how to do it, she was confident with it. She is getting much better at using a protractor to find angles."
"The student had a quiz on Friday, so we focused on Hyperbolas and Parabolas. She had some initial questions about tackling problems that required her to convert an initial equation into standard form and then graph it, so we tackled that first. Then, we also went over the finer points of graphing hyperbolas and parabolas, and what each of the points (vertex, foci, etc.) meant for the graph. She seemed to understand everything well and I was not concerned about anything."
"Focused on French and Mathematics. Went over homework, verb conjugations, and sentence construction in the future proche. Went over two math worksheets: proportions/ratios and transformation/translation/congruent triangles, respectively. Helped the student develop some strategies for problems requiring spatial reasoning."
