Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has been struggling in her physics class because she says she has problems applying information that she has learned previously. We reviewed each of her tests and it seemed to me that she had problems with calculations and being able to think clearly with problems. In order to see how she approaches problems, I observed her as she did her homework. This homework covered the topic of momentum and impulse. She did not know how to properly begin the problems and was organizing the information improperly. My instruction to her was to stop and write out each variable from the problem and the relevant equations. Once she did this she began to understand the problem. We did 2 with calculations together and by the third and fourth problems she was able to do them with little assistance. Finally, we ended the session by reviewing her lab problems. This also covered the topic of momentum and she was able to easily solve the problems."
"We went over kinematics equations, forces, acceleration, velocity, vector addition, and some trigonometry. We nearly finished half of the final review material, and we will finish the other half tomorrow. She struggled the most with vector addition and trigonometry which is integral to the work she's doing, so I had to shift focus away from her material to cover that. I feel like she would benefit from more sessions covering those basics as well."
"We covered center of mass, and gravitation. She seems to struggle most with locating equations to arrive at the answer she wants. Her attitude was very driven to the answer and wanting to know more about the topic and asking appropriate questions. I gave her the strategy of continuing to practice and do similar problems so that she gains a better understanding and ability to do it."
