"Worked with the student on some basic concepts for homework. I will bring some pre-algebra stuff on Saturday."
"The student did well today. He worked much more carefully and was able to avoid making many small mistakes. We went over some math vocabulary and strategies for longer word problems. We went over some troublesome problems together. Then he did part of another practice session independently. He double checked his work, went a bit slower, wrote out some of the work, etc and only got one problem wrong (which he knew how to do) so that's great! We went over some more new vocabulary and then he completed a verbal reasoning practice session consisting of twenty synonyms and twenty sentence completions. He completed them very quickly and got just one problem wrong in each section. We had time to do some reading comprehension as well. He got twenty out of twenty five questions correct. He did better as we went along. Great job :)"
"The student completed two homework exercises involving probability, random selection, mutually exclusive events, permutations, combinations, discrete probability distribution, classical probability, mean of probability, random variable, standard deviation, etc."
"Worked with Student 1 on flashcards for his math vocab. Worked with Student 2 on a writing assignment about her favorite weather. We talked about separate clauses, superlatives, and run-on sentences, as well as how to plan an essay."
"Student did an awesome job today. Today in his math workbook we talked about reading data from a table. Also we talked about creating a stem and leaf plot based on the data that was given. We also worked on some language arts dealing with cause and effect. We also studied for his spelling test that he has tomorrow and he spelled all of them with confidence. He also started studying the new vocabulary words that he received for science. He read for 25 minutes today also. He is doing a great job."
"First, I checked the student's math homework. Then we went over writing prompts and how to set up to write expository and narrative writing. She practiced conversion problems I made up since her homework was on conversions. Last she practiced flash cards again."
"Last day of school, showed me awards received in ELA and math, excited about 6th grade next year. We did a final story on the student's favorite day of school with rough draft and final draft. Multiplication review."
"We focused on bonds and lease obligations in this session as well as went back to earlier material to begin reviewing for the final exam. We went through many problems for the review and will focus on depreciation next time. Our next session is December 6 at 6:00 pm."
"The student and I went over the practice test that he took last time. We focused mostly on the math sections. The ones that he found most challenging were the ones solving equations in terms of x. After several practice examples, he was able to understand the concept. At the end he took a practice language test, which we will go over next time."
"This session began with a brainstorming period. We then worked on including vocabulary that evokes positive responses in our readers. The student then had the opportunity to apply these skills."
"The student and I worked on completing her annotated bibliography and finding sources for her paper. We narrowed down her topic and got her to a working thesis, as well. She left our session needing to read sources and finish annotating them in her bibliography."
"Today the student and I covered both Science and Geography. He has an amazing memory for concepts, as demonstrated by both his ability to remember large amounts of geographic data and his recollection of science materials. There's no telling how far he can go!"
