Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we went through a practice reading section as well as a math section. The students both did very well managing their time. They had a few mistakes in reading some questions (such as missing the word except at the end), but overall understood the materials covered and how to practice and improve. We went over materials they can study over their break to prepare for the test."
"We started the session by discussing the student's strengths and weaknesses in school. We discussed the SSAT format and how she felt she did. She spoke about her strengths and weaknesses in test taking and also how she learns best. Prior to the session, I reviewed a writing sample from her previous SSAT and discussed with her the strengths/weaknesses she possesses as a writer. She also discussed her strengths and weaknesses in math. We developed a plan to prepare her for the SSAT. We focused mainly on reading during this session. We started with analogies and planned how she could approach those types of questions. We reviewed vocabulary for the SSAT and planned how to best learn those words. We also practiced reading comprehension questions and worked on some strategies to locate answers/eliminate silly choices. We ended by making a plan for future sessions and what she could practice before the next session. I think the student could use more work in vocabulary. The more practice she can get to review those words, the more successful she will be. Our plan to practice: She will continue reviewing her vocab flashcards and give real-life examples for each word. She will also discuss with her parents what each word means and describe its meaning in her own words. She will also practice some analogies using the strategies we discussed and check her answers."
"Today. the student and I continued to go over the math problems she missed on her practice test. We will continue going over the practice test this Friday."
