Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed some sections she had done since our last session. She showed improved results on the math portion, a good sign as the test approaches. We also spent a good deal of time working on improving sentences and paragraphs and using some of the techniques we developed from other areas. It was a good session."
"In this session, the student and I began by going over his revised list of essay examples and discussing why it is an improvement over his original list. He was a little concerned about how to apply this list to more abstract essay prompts, so we practiced brainstorming examples and thesis statements for some of these prompts. He was still a bit uncomfortable with this at first, but he now has a good handle on how to deal with difficult prompts and write a strong essay. After this, we worked on the critical reading section. We worked on sentence completion first, reviewing strategy and completing some practice problems together. He is doing a great job on these, so we practiced more difficult problems that had vocabulary words that he does not know. After this, we continued to practice critical reading. He is doing a much better job with active reading, but he needs to continue to work on identifying the author's arguments as he reads. For homework, I asked him to finish the passage-based reading questions we were working on and write at least one timed practice essay. In our next session we will discuss this homework and spend a little time working on the math section."
"We went over each section of the test and strategies for each. After that, we discussed math more in depth, and the student worked on multiple sections. Lastly, we began reviewing a critical reading section."
