Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had some questions about sequences from last time so we began by covering that. We worked through a variety of problems that ran the gamut of the types of problems you can see on the SAT. I think he definitely understood what we talked through but it will, as always, be up to him to make sure he nails it down on his own. He also had a question about a complicated proportion problem that we discussed. He had questions about when to use systems of equations and proportions in general which is also good as I think it suggests some motivation that has been lacking thus far. I tried to explain some general cases and told him he should look back at some of the old material we had done on those subjects. He said he was unsure about some of the grammar rules (particularly for the A/B/C/D/E separate underline style questions) so we worked through a bunch of those together and I tried to stress the rule being used, how to identify the errors, and how to simplify the evaluation of what was wrong. We finished the session by working through a practice math section together where I would try to offer quicker solutions and guidance to help him solve the problems."
"The student and I reviewed vocabulary to see how much progress he had made since last week. He has improved noticeably, though he does struggle a little when he is dealing with a time limit. We then worked on reading passages, and I gave him some tips on how to deal with those. He does really well with that when he takes his time reading the question. We then looked at the different writing portions of the SAT. I had him practice those, though he seems to be proficient at that already. I left him with a vocabulary book to look at with some important words, and assigned a few pages in his SAT practice book."
"The student and I reviewed the 16 or so problems on his practice test on SAT Level 1 Math. We then took a look for fun word problems in the Level 2 Math section. We also worked on speed and SAT test game theory."
