Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we began the session with reviewing verbal questions, such as synonym questions and analogy questions. She agrees with me that she has a little less difficulty with analogy questions, thus, I will spend extra time on synonym questions in the upcoming sessions. Additionally, she wrote a timed essay for me. I also reviewed questions that she had difficulty with in the extra practice that I assigned for her to complete in between sessions. We finished up the session with practice reading problems. She did really well on these, even though I picked challenging passages. I am not assigning her with any additional practice, since I will have another session with her tomorrow. Tomorrow, I plan for her to complete half of an SSAT exam timed--I think she is ready for this, because she has been doing a lot of practice problems from all sections. I would like to see how sitting down with a real exam will be."
"We covered the last section on Critical Reading, Whole Passages, in the test prep book. We also covered all of the five of the drills on Synonyms and began the section on Analogies. She is to take a diagnostic test and have it scored. She is to continue vocabulary work also."
"During this session, the student and I worked through an online verbal section that we then discussed, and then she worked through a reading comprehension section from her book. She did very well on both sections. I think she is getting better about slowing down when she is answering questions, and this helps her to avoid making mistakes. We have consistently found that the materials available on the website are more difficult than the materials in the book, so we've decided to mostly work through the site so that she remains challenged. For future sessions, I plan to continue to have her work through full sections."
