Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has absorbed a lot of information from our sessions and has been able to use it effectively on his practice tests. The only section where I see a little weakness is in reading, so I've suggested to him that he skips the ones that make him draw a blank and come back to them when he's finished the section--he tends to finish these sections in about 10-15 minutes, so he'll have plenty of time to deliberate about the correct answers."
"Since the student has never taken an actual SAT (only a practice test out of the book), for the first 15 minutes, we briefly covered the formatting of the test, types of questions, and some test taking tips. These tips and value of knowing the format of the test will be repeatedly covered again and again throughout our sessions to get the knowledge into the student's head. We then quickly went over her scores from the practice test that the student has taken, which was a score of 1630, a very good score, having only studied minimally on an independent basis. The mathematics portion was the student's lowest score, so we began with going over the mathematics section on the practice test #2, section #3. The student has a very good foundation to begin with, even considering that she is only two months into her junior year. She had command of most, if not all, of the concepts on the section. She was able to get most of the questions, with only one question wrong out of 20. We then went on to the verbal section (section #4). The student had strong vocabulary skills, with a good foundation for being able to break down words into prefix, suffix, and root in order to decipher the meaning if she did not previously have experience with the word. Out of the vocabulary section and the short passages, she only got 2 out of 12 questions wrong, and she was able to get through 9 out of 13 questions on the long passage. I left the last 4 questions as homework for her to work on. Overall, this was a very good start, and I think she will only continue to improve with experience and prolonged practice."
"We went over some critical reading questions that he had not had time to do prior to the session. We also discussed strategy for fill in the blank sentence questions. He did very well in answering the critical reading questions and I'm going to send over a new set of problems for him to work through for next time. He also has another math set of questions to do for next time where we can go over any wrong answers. Next time will be a general review for his upcoming test."
