Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered stoichiometry problems. We worked on questions that the student did not know how to do (From a school packet). We worked on several topics including, finding limiting reactants, gases at standard temp and pressure, molecular formula, empirical formula and molar mass. She was receptive to the review. We also covered how to approach similar problems and the steps to take."
"Began with a mini quiz. Discussed test structure and contents. Reviewed Chapter 21 for test. I suggested strategy that would be useful with this particular Chapter. For the next session, tomorrow, I will be preparing practice sets for any math calculations that may show up on the test. (Population genetics and carbon dating) We addressed aspects that the student was struggling with and she picked up on them quickly. I saw the previous tests that she has taken in this class and the format that the teacher uses so we will continue preparing for next chapters based on this."
"The student has another test on Friday which focuses on the concepts of forces and resolving them into components. In order to prepare, we discussed which types of problems she had the most issues with and identified inclined planes to be the most problematic. She had a homework worksheet she had not completed previously which focused on this topic. We reviewed the problems together and she did pretty well except for calculating forces in the vertical direction. We continued to do various problems addressing this, and she seemed to grasp the topic after practicing. I created a similar problem, and she was able to complete it without my help. I believe she just needed to increase her confidence, so we completed a few more simple problems together. I left her with 2 other worksheets and practice problems from her textbook, in order to make sure she had enough practice before her test. I am very pleased with how well she is doing recently, as she is able to grasp the material much more easily than when we started our sessions."
