Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student continued reviewing the first semester with evaluating and graphing various functions and inequalities. She needed a little reminding of some rules for inequalities but only once."
"Student A has started factoring, and is doing pretty well with it, but needed guidance in the multitude of steps (grouping, GCF, etc.) so I helped her come up with a method to get through the problems. Student B is just working on probability and proportions some more - she had a test and didn't get it back, but claims that she felt pretty good about how she did."
"Today the student and I spent some more time on the interpretation of graphs of functions and their derivatives. This topic is visual in nature and questions that test these ideas often involve few actual equations. These types of problems are great practice because they are very conceptual and force students to grasp the relationships between features on graphs (e.g. slopes and concavity) and the analytical counterparts of these features (e.g. first and second derivatives). We also discussed the differentiability and continuity of piecewise functions. We worked on a challenging multistep problem that gave the student another great opportunity to engage with important conceptual underpinnings, this time while solving an equation-oriented question."
"Today I worked with the student on understanding prime and composite numbers. We worked on worksheets from her class as well as problems from her textbook. We also worked on a few problems in her SOL packet that reviewed all she covered in her class from the first quarter."
"We covered surface area and volume of triangular prisms and rectangular prisms. We covered the area of triangles. The student had time to work on science homework, and we worked on a few of the student's reading questions."
"Today, the student and I worked on math and science. The math covered expressions and exponents. He and I worked on math (word problems, inequalities) and Social Studies. We also prepared for a quiz in math he has on Wednesday. Both had great attitudes."
