Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, I met with the student to prepare for his final exams. I spend 1 hour working with him on algebra, and worked through several problems about simplifying variables and working through various operations. He seems to be proficient in these subjects and just worked through some things that were difficult. I spent the second hour working with him on preparing for his biology final. We reviewed ecology, which included the food chain and biomes. He seems to know his biomes very well."
"Worked with the student on his material for his math competition coming in February. Worked on pre-algebra and algebra skills."
"I helped the student review for her algebra final. We covered exponents and rational expressions as well as word problems."
"The student and I went over the finding either GCF, using the squares method, or doing the ac/b method to factor a trinomial or binomial. The lesson included finding the roots after factoring the trinomial or binomial. She said her retake went well so hopefully her grades will continue to go up from here. We had a lot of practice problems to do today so she led the way and she finished all her homework. She was a little slow in the beginning of the worksheet but once we established the three methods and she became a lot more confident in the material."
"The student and I learned scientific notation and how to simplify fractions. She will be getting a review sheet from me that she should wait a few days before trying because we want to see how well she retained the new information."
"Today, we went over most of the concepts involved in polynomial operations. We covered adding, subtracting, and multiplying- from monomials all the way up to trinomials. The student did better than expected on most of the categories, but struggled a little with how to combine exponents when adding polynomials. We will definitely cover this more at the next session. The student seemed comfortable with distributing, which I assumed would be the biggest challenge of the day. For the next session, we will cover more of what we did today and go over factoring polynomials."
