"We covered linear momentum, conservation of momentum, Newton's Laws, and impulse. It was great to hear that he had improved to an 80 on his last quiz. He didn't have any pressing difficulties with any particular area besides not knowing anything about impulse. So the majority of the session was dedicated to that and strengthening the fundamentals. He seems to have improved a lot."
"With Student 1, I went over conservation of momentum in two dimensions. I had the student do two problems on his own, helping him along the way and pointing out specific instances where he was off track. After he did some practice problems, he felt that he was in much better shape. I think he has a much better understanding of momentum now, and he can do the problems on his own. With Student 2, I went over an introduction to energy, both kinetic and potential. Since his class was just getting started with the material, I kept it general for now. After getting a better understanding, we went over some introductory problems that related potential and kinetic energy, both using the equations to find specific values or general scenarios where we were only concerned with the sum of the energies. I felt that the student had a decent grasp on what was going on. Once he sees the equation used more in class, he will be fine. I think that he is in good shape to start learning more about energy; he had a pretty good grasp on what was going on with the example problems, and we went as far as we could in the notes."
"We reviewed for his test on momentum, work, energy, power and torque. We spent the majority of the session on torque - different types of problems involving balancing on a board with and without considering the weight of the board. We also went over a problem about the torque of a wrench, and discussed the purpose of using tools to lessen applied force. We spent the remainder of the lesson going over conceptual problems about work and energy, conservation of energy, and impulse and momentum. He seems prepared for the problems on torque."
