Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We are continuing to prepare the student to take the test. He has already completed one practice test. Today, we reviewed Section #4, Mathematics Achievement. We went over the specific problems that he got wrong on the practice test. After the review of Section #4, Mathematics Achievement, he started his second practice test. We continued our tutoring session with Section #2, Quantitative Reasoning. He will complete this specific section (Quantitative Reasoning) and the remaining two (Reading Comprehension and Mathematics Achievement) during our next tutoring session. He is making good progress in his exam preparation. He is a very bright student. He is always focused on the task at hand. Thus our tutoring sessions are always very productive."
"We reviewed the last of the practice math and tips for the day of the test. I recommended the student take this next week just reviewing strategies and really understanding the questions on her own terms."
"During this session, we finished reviewing questions that the student had trouble with on her practice exam. Afterwards, we worked through a set of questions I found from the database that related to the areas that she had trouble in, as assessed from our first session. She explained to me her process of solving these questions (linear formulas, application of quadratic equations, manipulating exponents, solving for single variable equations, area and perimeter formulas, and translating word problems into equations) and we worked through other possible methods and ways to save time on questions. We focused mainly on trying to shorten the time between reading the question and coming up with an approach to solve the problem. She is improving in this area. From the questions I picked out for her, I noticed that she was able to assess the problem and figure out how to solve them more quickly than last session. I am still suggesting that she practice a lot with flashcards so she can really solidify her skills in manipulating exponents and formulas. She and I came to the agreement that the part she really wants to work on for the exam is translating the information given in the question into an equation or a picture, when one is not given. I am picking out a set of questions that will help her practice in this area. We will work through these questions during our next session."
