Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student finished up assignment for his online class. We practiced pronunciation for his recording, answered questions in the book, and then started to practice the new vocabulary in chapter 2."
"The student said his grade has risen from an F to an C, and that he believes he scored well on his latest PALS exam. He wanted to review times of the day, days of the week, months, and season. I quizzed him on the relevant terms, and he seemed to recall almost everything except seasons and days of the week. We made flash cards and reviewed them, and the review showed that he needs to practice his days of the week. We will continue to work on these next session. He also sought assistance with a packet of homework materials. He was asked to write sentences, and his ability to confidently form sentences is far stronger than it was in January. The packet covered this/that/these/those, and we had already covered this topic previously and independently from the school curriculum."
"We went over reflexive verbs, vocabulary related to getting ready in the morning, and vocabulary related to going on a beach vacation. The student was struggling the most with pronunciation."
"Oral practice - answering questions in the preterite. The student has trouble with listening and answering questions in Spanish. There has been some difficulty with her teacher and on approval of her mother I will be making contact to help gain better idea of testing material and seeing results"
"The student shared with me her progress on our objectives. She'd mastered all of the letter names and numbers 1-20. This allowed her to read approximately half of the terms she'd wanted to learn. She also did an outstanding job memorizing the terms I translated for her, accomplishing another of our goals. She also ordered a Spanish-language CD that will further improve her verbal skills, and she's been listening to Spanish-language programs. Today we worked on greetings, origins, and pronunciation by reviewing vowel and preliminary sounds."
"Today the student and I covered the vocabulary for his upcoming quiz on Thursday. We began the session with a brief review of what we covered last session, and he was able to recite the vocabulary with only a few missteps. This is a great sign for his future success in Spanish. We created flashcards for each vocabulary word with Spanish and English translations on each side. By the end of the session, the student had a good grasp on the words. I then showed him how to study and practice on his own, and I advised him to briefly review the words each day prior to his upcoming quiz. I believe if he takes that extra step to review the flashcards, he will be more likely to retain the information and do well on his quiz. The student struggled most with the correct pronunciation of syllables, but this is to be expected since he is still a beginner. However, in future sessions, we will focus on the pronunciation more carefully to reinforce good vocal habits."
