Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we continued our discussion of the English test before reviewing strategies and content for the math test. I left the student with some extra math and English practice."
"In this session, the student and I started by working on two reading passages. I timed her as she read and answered the questions for each passage. In both passages, she did well in going back to check in the passage to answer questions on specific details. She should remember to think about the context of a word or a phrase, and - in questions about purpose - about how they function in the passage or in a paragraph as a whole. She can also mark transitions and underline key words and phrases in the passage as she reads to help her find information better. Between the two reading passages that we worked on (one on the social sciences and one on the natural sciences), she seemed to do slightly better on the natural sciences passage. In the second part of the session, we worked on three passages from the science section. I timed her on these passages as well - she was able to finish the questions for one of the passages. She did well in questions about the experimental setup and reading off of graphs. We also practiced using given chemical equations to answer questions and making inferences about a hypothetical situation using the information provided in the passage. She seems to be improving on her timing, but can continue to practice under time constraints to improve more."
"We worked through ACT math questions from an old ACT test. I was impressed with the student's skills in trig."
