Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent most of tonight's session going over his recent Math test, and taking notes on the kinds of solution strategies that work for him on these problems. We then went together through an English test, including lessons on comma and apostrophe usage and work with tense agreement. The student struggles most with questions about placement of sentences within a paragraph, so that's where we'll pick up next time."
"Today, the student and I worked on the multiple choice writing and verbal sections by completing a practice test. He is generally doing well on the multiple choice sections of the test; he only misses a few (if any) questions per section. However, I've noticed that he has a tendency to work quickly and often misses questions because he's moving through the questions too fast. So we focused on working slowly and carefully, and this helped a lot. The only thing he needs help with conceptually is some additional vocabulary review. Though his powers of inference are excellent, knowing more of the words that are likely to show up on the test will give him confidence and result in a higher score. I'm going to email him some resources for vocabulary practice and suggest he use them for about 15 minutes per day until test day. At the end of the session, we set some goals for the two practice tests he's going to take before the exam. We're aiming for a perfect score on the multiple choice writing and verbal sections (up to 2 missed questions per category) and at least a 10 on the essay. Achieving these goals will land him solidly in the high 700s on both writing and verbal."
"We covered geometry and spent a lot of time clearing up confusion about triangles. Then we worked on comparative reading passages and worked more on structuring the essay portion of the SAT"
