"The student had to write a brochure for a hotel in Spanish. He had a rubric to follow and included all the required topics and answered all the questions required. He just has to put the text together with some photos from the internet but the hard part is done--It was cool to see him being creative. Then we spent the last part doing problems on the area of triangles and parallelograms, and we had to use some of the material he had earlier about right triangles to get the answers. Good session."
"Today we practiced impersonal phrases, focusing on use of subjunctive and reviewing clause construction. We also practiced and reviewed past vocabulary. We then worked on developing skills for understanding through use of context by translating a short story."
"We practiced pronunciation by doing a couple of tongue twisters. In terms of grammar, we covered the present perfect (have/has done something; haber + participio) and the future-going to (voy/vas/va etc. + a + infinitivo). The class was structured around conversation: the student told me about the novel she is reading, "A Farewell to Arms" ("Adios a las Armas" in Spanish), and she learned some terms for literary analysis: personaje (character), estilo (style), tema (theme), trama (plot), identificarse con (identity with). She also told me about a documentary (documental) she had seen about the life of Ernest Hemingway. We will continue to work with literary texts next time!"
