Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Worked with the student today. She's still on quadratics, but more on how to identify certain types of equations. Rough topics to trudge through so quickly, but she's managing very well. She informed me she got a B on her test which is FANTASTIC! I helped her with the parts she was struggling with on the new materials and reminded her she does get to use a "cheat sheet" - so she should make some notes on what she needs."
"We covered elements, ions, and isotopes. The concept of Dalton's atomic theory leading to modern atomic theory (Thompson/Rutherford experiment) is explored and expanded upon. As well, we went over the construction of the periodic table, how and why elements were arranged the way they were, and how to decipher the elements from the periodic table. Additional concepts of isotopes versus ions are explored and delineated. We also went over how to combine two ions to make compounds with the right chemical formula. Reviewed the fundamental concepts of compounds versus elements versus atoms."
"This session included three main points: writing, spelling, and a discussion of the student's current progress and curriculum in English class and literacy as a whole. He and I opened with a review of the various spelling techniques he previously learned, and he then began spelling practice with about 8-10 words which we revisited for spelling accuracy before the session's end. His goal, 100% accuracy on spelling these words, was achieved. The two-fold writing goal was only partially accomplished as time ran out. However, he did successfully master modeling a new writing technique of using more positive/affirmative statements in his persuasive essay in order to more actively persuade readers. Likewise, we began a lesson on putting the stress of the sentence and more important wording at the end of the sentence and will finish this writing technique next lesson."
"The student has a trigonometry test tomorrow. We spent a lot of time working problems and memorizing formulas. in particular the half angle formulas and the angle sum identities."
"Today I began the implementation of the corrective program designed for the student. He was well engaged and displayed vast interest in the lesson. The assessment sheet assigned to him indicate that he is already applying the strategies to which he was earlier introduced. It was a good lesson."
"The student and I spent the entirety of our lesson reviewing Logic Games strategies. I feel that we had some major breakthroughs today in terms of how he understands strategies like Limited Concepts as well as overall question management. I think our biggest win was when he redid a sequencing game and really took the lead. I was very pleased with his performance and tenacity today."
