Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed for her quiz tomorrow. It's over chapter 2, sections 1-3, which includes linear equations, proportions, and graphing linear equations. We particularly worked on finding x and y intercepts, getting something into slope-intercept form, and determining when to use which method of solving a problem."
"Today the student and I met in preparation for her Chapter 7 exam. She did very well with the latter concepts, since that is what we started discussing, when we began meeting. She did well with the first few concepts as well, I think she will do really well on the exam with some extra review and practice. She is understanding why concepts and problems are solved in the manor that they are, so I am quite impressed with her progress so far. The chapter deals with Radical and Rational Exponents. "
"Session with the student. Today we worked on quiz corrections and a review for her final. The material covered: working with data to find a function model, graphing inequalities, solving inequalities algebraically, determining continuity of a function and solving a system of functions algebraically. So far I believe the student is on the right track of making an A on her final!"
"The student and I met tonight to work on his World History Project. Since we had completed most of the research on Sunday and he was scheduled to have a work day on Tuesday, we had planned to write the paper this evening. When I arrived, he had not completed his research, so he finished researching in the first half hour of the session. We then used the notes he had taken to organize the outline for the paper. In the remaining time, he was able to write two of the necessary five paragraphs for the paper. He has the outlines to complete the other three paragraphs and plans to finish the paper by Friday, its due date."
"Today the student and I had an online tutoring session to prepare her for her GRE, which she is taking this Monday. We had an all-math session today, working with great success through quadratics and "hard math problems" from her prep software. Some important concepts we covered were: FOIL, factoring quadratic equations, finding roots, Distance = Rate x Time, and geometry involving circles, squares, and triangles. "
"Friday was our first session! The student and I talked quite a bit about the last time he took the DAT, how he did on each section, and his specific concerns for this time around. Most of our session was spent talking about test taking strategy holistically, and on the individual sections. We also started going over OChem and GChem subjects and practice questions, including melting and boiling point and periodic trends. He will be taking a diagnostic exam and our next session will go over topic areas he has questions in as well as select subject areas (ex. ARIOS) that came up during our last session!"
