Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over orbitals, the principles of energy levels, and some strategies to simplify difficult concepts. I think the student is feeling less overwhelmed by the class and I encouraged her to keep up with the problem sets because practice is essential to understanding and performing well on her exams."
"Today we went over naming conventions for binary compounds; Metal-nonmetal and nonmetal-nonmetal compounds and how to figure out how to write the systematic names. Oxidation numbers for transition metals were discussed and we also discussed how to memorize polyatomic ions and their formulations. Then we went over practice problems and homework on these topics."
"The student is taking the ACT on Saturday, and this was our final session together. We reviewed the reading comprehension section of his practice test and went over a few tips for answering similar questions. After that, we looked at the next test in the book and worked through some math questions together. We reviewed the quadratic formula and a little about functions, and I suggested that he also consider working backwards on some questions, when it might be easier to try plugging answer choices into the given information to see which one works."
"During my session with the student we continued working on Arrays. This will be the last topic covered by his class so we have spent lots of time working practice problems and labs. We covered using nested for loops to search for and store values from one array to another, a process that is more complex than previous examples we have worked. We also reviewed other problems that we had worked, which covered iterating through and storing values in arrays, and also using array indexes to retrieve and store data."
"We focused on math. Specifically, we covered distributive property, FOIL, factoring binomials, and multiplying exponents. The student caught on to all concepts very quickly and was very attentive during the lesson."
