Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed problems of concern in the math and reading sections, especially for main idea and tone with the reading section."
"Today we discussed the exam for a bit. We reviewed the student's math homework for the weekend (rounding decimals) and he completed the last few problems in this assignment. We worked through a ratio problem that was included in a practice ISEE test book. I assigned the student an essay for homework. Overall it was a great session."
"Since I didn't see any obvious trends in the student's incorrect answers from the practice ISEE, we reviewed sample questions in three of the four test sections: Verbal Reasoning, Reading Comprehension and Mathematical Achievement. This allowed me to observe how he approached and solved questions/problems. We discussed the following strategies: Verbal Reasoning- Looking for root or affixes, identifying parts of speech, and reading the question with answer choices. Reading Comprehension- Reading with the main idea in mind, going back to the text for specific information, and reading EVERY answer choice. Mathematical Achievement- Writing our work down to stay organized, keeping equations balanced, and writing down steps for multi-step problems. Until our next session, the student is going to write down any unknown words he comes across as he reads. We will look for context clues together. He struggled with multi-step math problems, so we will spend more time at our next session until he approaches these types of problems confidently. He is enthusiastic and self motivated to learn these skills!"
