"We focused on practicing social science passages for the Reading section as well as taking a Reading practice test."
"In this session, the student and I began by discussing the ACT essay. We talked generally about how the ACT and SAT essay were different and similar, and then looked at a sample ACT essay prompt and discussed how she might go about outlining her response for it. Since she did not have any trouble with the time limit on the essay, I suggested that she could spend slightly more time in the outline phase to work out her organization and to think of specific examples. Then, we moved on to work on the science section. I gave her some tips about how to budget her time in individual science passages, and we talked about what to look at first when reading charts and graphs. I also timed her as she worked on the questions for one science passage - she was able to finish 5 out of 6 questions in the allotted time. We also worked on the math section, and went over the harder-level problems she had missed in her two practice tests. We went over trigonometry, logs, geometry, and percent change. On a few problems, she had trouble remembering the right formula or strategy to use, but was able to quickly figure out the problem after she knew the right formula. I suggested that she review relevant formulas and equations right before the test to refresh her memory. During the last part of the session, we talked in general about strategies that she could use on the ACT, including marking up reading passages as she reads, knowing when to skip a question, how to use diagrams on the math section, and practicing individual science and reading passages using a timer. I wish her best of luck!"
"We did 3 passages from the English section, 2 from the reading section, and 2 from the science section. I assigned the student to read a chapter for homework and take some additional practice exams."
