Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued to prepare for his final exam. Today we went over a past exam. He did very well, and was able to work out most of the problems with very minimal help."
"Review of quadrilateral, indirect proofs, CPCTC, and parallelism. Review of polynomials, factoring, quad. eqn, and graphing."
"Today, we covered projectile motion, completing the square, and revisited older topics. To prepare for her 6 weeks test, we redid many of the problems on both her test and her reviews."
"We worked on polar coordinates and polar equations and the conversions between those and Cartesian points/equations. The student is having the most trouble with the problem solving aspect of trig. I think he wants it to be more like algebra where it's more repetition and rules, while trig is a bit more abstract and non-linear. To help guide the way, I've tried to teach specific strategies like grouping r and theta together, looking for ways to get r^2, y/x etc. The student has homework to work on."
"In depth discussion on Amplitude, Phase Shift, and Period of Sine and Cosine functions. Worked on problems related to these. Went over the concepts of where the Sine and Cosine functions come from, and how they are used in the real world."
"Today we completed Trig test review problems using the law of cosines and the law of sines. All were very good practical problems involving aircraft speed and direction, distances to forest fires from two watchtowers, and calculating the length of a lake using survey readings."
