Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I introduced about 20 reaction equations. We then labeled each reaction type (Synthesis, Degradation, Single Replacement, Double Replacement or Combustion). Once that was determined we balanced each reaction. Knowledge of charge on all polyatomic molecules is key."
"The student and I studied for his chemistry retake test on unit 5. We went over the outline, some end of chapter problems, and the original test. It was a good session."
"In this session, the student and I reviewed the periodic table trends specifically on the Atomic radius and the ionization energy. We discussed the logic behind those two trends and worked on a few of the practice problems from her review packet."
"The student and I reviewed material from his recent class. He has a test coming up, so that's his main focus for the near future. We went over orbital diagrams and valence electrons. Finally, at the end we spent a little while talking about how to efficiently study."
"We went over orbitals and energy levels. We also reviewed a few problems from his practice SAT test."
"Today the student and I went over a practice quiz and part of his next homework. The practice quiz consisted of more matter/energy relationships, such as the wavelength and frequency of light and the energy associated with electrons moving between orbitals, as well as momentum and the De Broglie wavelength. He is becoming more and more comfortable with this material each time I meet with him, and the ideas and concepts click more as he has time to digest it. The homework focused mainly on periodic trends, which is much more conceptual than quantitative in nature. This has allowed us to really delve into the structure of the atom, how suborbitals fill with electrons, and the patterns that emerge as a result of this on the periodic table itself."
