Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has her final exam today, so we spent our last session of the semester reviewing those topics most likely to appear on her final exam. We also corrected mistakes from her midterms."
"We worked on the algebra study guide for the final. I helped the student organize the folders for each class. We discussed ways of preparing and studying for finals."
"We did a problem set that was a mixed review of solving systems of equations, simplifying fractions, square roots, graphing lines, and solving word problems."
"We covered all of unit three (parallelograms, geometry, and angle problems). The student is a great student! She's extremely engaged and committed to learning the material. I love her enthusiasm and I think it really helps her learn the material. When I went through the problems, I would always explain the reasons behind a certain math rule, or certain equation and that seemed to really connect the dots for her! The theory is important to teach her because I think she is a strong theoretical thinker."
"We continued our work on solving for variables as that is the main focus in the student's class. We worked on subtracting and adding positive and negative numbers to find our variables. He seems to be getting a lot better at remembering the correct steps to solve for each variable."
"The students both have tests in the upcoming week. Student C is working on factoring. He had a wide variety of problems to work through for homework. We talked through different strategies to factoring faster using factor trees and GCF. We also worked through a few of the special cases, perfect square trinomials and x^2-y^2. Overall he seemed pretty confident with the material. Student K did well on her quiz from the previous week. This week she was working with more complex log transformations than last week. We reviewed log and ln transformations. She had the most trouble with the order of operations when combining logs and solving exponentials with unequal bases. We reviewed both topics with some extra practice with order of operations and how that also is important for solving algebraic equations. She seemed optimistic about her test next Tuesday."
