Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went though a worksheet where we had to change equations into both standard form and slope-intercept form. In addition we had to graph the equations and find the x-intercepts, y-intercepts, and slope. After we completed that worksheet we did some more review of the topic with equations that I made up for the student. I think that by the end of the session the student was starting to really understand how to change forms and detect the different parts of the graph."
"Covered elimination and substitution reactions. Went over synthesis and reverse synthesis. Made decent headway into the area. Understands the reactions, and just needs more practice in combining them and thinking through some of them."
"We focused on cell metabolism - anabolism, catabolism, thermo, etc. I reviewed some macro-molecules as they relate to metabolism (sugars, linkages, amino acids side chains and backbone, biosynthesis of nucleotides, synthesis and degradation of fatty acids with emphasis on compartments). We discussed lock and key, activators and inhibitors, and negative feedback. He seems to understand the material really well."
"Today I did a unit on Catholic and religious vocab. I went through as many words and functions as I could find, including words for worship and veneration, and the various ranks within the church. We also discussed expressions that the students would be able to use in the classroom."
"We reviewed her flash cards and worked on vocabulary, roots and foreign language similarities. We began studying the verbal comprehension section of the test and stressed 3 main points that she should be aware of - main idea, specific detail and inference. I gave her homework to continue working on flash cards during the vacation."
"The student and I finished Ordering Games. He did a great job, including on the last very difficult one. He hung in there and managed to come out on top. Once again, if he focuses on what the question is asking, he'll be fine."
