Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered the Islamic Empire and the spread of monasticism. He explains ideas very cogently for someone his age. He has a firm grasp on the material at the this point, and I believe he will do very well on the exams."
"The student and I went over efficient ways to understand ancient text, particularly through the use of online resources such as dictionaries. We went over sentence structure concepts, particularly noun and verb usage within each sentence. We then applied that knowledge of structure to his text, the Acts of Paul and Thecla, which he has a quiz on tomorrow. It was encouraging to see his effort in improving his own reading and writing skills throughout the session. I am trying to get him to write his own notes on each text so he can better understand their plots. My hope is that through more sessions like the one today, he will be able to locate and efficiently use online resources to make his ancient text more understandable."
"Another great session! The student and I performed a closer visual analysis of both sculptures, and discussed specifically the sculpture of Chakrasamvara and Vajrayogini. She found a lot to say in that Chakrasamvara is a derivation of Shiva, which shows the transfusion of Hinduism into Tibetan Buddhism. We will meet again one more time (Wednesday at 10) before the paper is due, to talk about the original function of the two sculptures and the final organization of her essay."
"We read and discussed an excerpt from Charles Dickens' Hard Times. The student then worked on answering questions based on what we had discussed. We then started working on a business assignment where I helped him by looking up articles online and pasting them into a readable format."
"Today we finished review of Chapter 14 and began review of Chapter 15, as the student has a test on these two chapters on Friday. She has a good understanding of this material, considering that Chapter 15 has not yet been reviewed in class. There were no concerns for this session. We will meet again this week in anticipation of the test."
"We spent our time today on amendments and court cases. Not all of the amendments are of equal importance, so I pointed the student to the most important ones. We also discussed court cases throughout the curriculum that she should know. We then shifted to multiple-choice questions, which she did really well on. We will plan on meeting at some point during her break next week."
