Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session began with a review of the student's previous writing. I then introduced the idea of persuasive writing. We completed a writing your opinion activity to begin to formulate and present a stated opinion concerning a topic. This was then extended through the reading/studying of the Important Book. She was then given a writing assignment for homework."
"The student did very well on the sections assigned for homework, but continues to struggle with the hardest math problems. We reviewed the problems she did, and many more, to improve her comfort with those question types. She will take a full test, under simulated testing circumstances, next Saturday and we will review it on Sunday."
"I haven't met with Dalena yet--I'll do that on Wednesday--but I've edited two of her essays, one for school and one for an application. She is receptive to feedback and eager to improve her writing. The content of her writing is good, but she needs some stylistic tweaks. I'm looking forward to working with her on that for class and for the upcoming AP test."
"We went over kver thermal chemistry section and worked on some passages. As far as understanding the concepts goes he is doing very well."
"We worked exclusively on math today, focusing on recent review of multiples, factors and dividing with remainders. Student has a solid handle on all these concepts; her only weaknesses are simple errors and a lack of confidence with multiplication tables. I've discussed this with her mother, who has already begun rhyming memorization exercises with her, so I'm not concerned about this issue. Instead I'll focus on helping her advance forward and introduce new topics."
"The student and I reviewed modal logic, properties of power sets (including 2^n = number of elements in the powerset of set A with n elements), onto one-to-one functions, and summation expansion. She was very receptive and eager for an explanation of the concepts and additional examples. It's good to see that she's feeling more confident and beginning to catch up on material, so I think she'll be able to make very good progress in the coming weeks."
