"The student and I talked about his summer reading list and what type of math he wants to work on this summer. We then read two chapters of "The Mouse and the Motorcycle," one of his summer reading books, together."
"The student did a sheet identifying and writing short a words. He did a sheet choosing the correct short a word out of three to match a picture of the word. He practiced reading short vowel words, some rhyming and some not."
"This was the final session for the girls and we had an interactive lesson. We did a tour of the nation's capital and at various memorials and monuments they answered questions to help them remember why each was important and significant. The girls are to write what they learned about America during the interactive lesson."
"We read a bit about Thomas Jefferson and studied New England. During the writing portion of our session, The student was asked to use critical thinking skills and focus on developing opinions based on the facts he'd read."
"The student and I concentrated mostly on her reading and writing this week. She did some writing and grammar worksheets in her workbook and we read in her Little House on the Prairie book. After talking with the student's mom, we have worked out some strategies to try to employ this summer for her specific learn disabilities."
"The student and I continued working on her private school applications. We got through 5 essays today, planning, writing and editing each essay. She is almost done with the applications but has a few things to check on, including checking with one school about whether the essays need to be handwritten (as their directions may have indicated). She has learned a lot as a writer during these last few weeks. Great work as always!"
