Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"After spending the past two weeks working on the SATs, today we moved back to the ACT exam. I taught strategies for the English portion of the ACT exam. The student showed good progress, and he is learning that the type of grammar errors that the ACT looks for are different than those on the SAT. "
"The student and I began to work through her study guide for her upcoming test. We completed about half of the study guide. We had a few questions that she will discuss with her professor on Monday. At our next session, we will continue to work through the remainder of the study guide."
"Today I reviewed and corrected the student's math homework, which she had already finished. She had completed it with just one mistake and seemed to understand the material (math facts) very well. The second student and I went over her homework (inequalities with multiplication and division). She understands what inequalities are and how to solve them. We talked about the steps she should go through for each problem and important things to remember and check for each time, especially negative numbers and showing her work. We corrected her homework and went over her test from last week. She was consistently able to tell me how to solve the problems and was able to complete them correctly when she was careful and took her time."
"Today the student and I reviewed how to solve a quadratic with the quadratic equation, completing the square, and factoring. We then started his homework problems. The directions asked him to find the y-intercept, x-intercept, and vertex of various quadratics. For the y-intercept, he can choose to use one of the three methods to solve quadratics, but I had him do all three. These topics are not easy to grasp and so far he is doing very well. He still needs my help on the more difficult ones, but he can do many on his own."
"We covered Projectile motion and how to break down a problem into multiple parts logically. We also went over projectile motion concepts and his homework. He has a test tomorrow which we reviewed for. No concerns."
"The student and I worked through his problem set, that included some GDP calculations and required an understanding of goods market equilibria and money market equilibria. It was a good first session to have, and it allowed me to have an idea of where he is with understanding the work. He struggled somewhat with the concepts of IS/LM equilibrium and was a bit unsure when it came to the GDP equations. I believe that the session that we had helped to clear up some of that confusion, and gave us good groundwork to tackle his next problem set, which he will receive on Thursday. All in all it was a good session, and he seemed generally positive, particularly after understanding the work that we went through. I look forward to our next session."
