Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has difficulties with reading comprehension. The student was unable to remember what happened in the book Sounder. She needed assistance with the structure of a paragraph and planning her three paragraph book report."
"Worked with the student on 8 challenge words. I had her define them, label their part of speech, and draw a picture to help her with the definition. We then reviewed them by playing a game that quizzed her knowledge of the words. I also briefly went over subject and predicate with her."
"We went though her last test to see what she did wrong and how to improve. We then worked on doing volume with integrals by the washer and disk method. We did a little bit of cross section method as well. "
"We went over the material from 5 chapters to help get the student ready for her test. Though, there were a lot of information to go through, we managed to cover most of the topics which included: Gibbs energy, activities of solid and liquid in a chemical reaction, fuel cells, oxidation/reduction reactions at anode/cathode, Nernst Equation, rate laws and rate constants of chemical reactions. She made great progress during the session. She was able to recall the concepts quickly and solve most of the review problems by herself. By the end of the session, she felt a lot more confident going to the test."
"We went over the SAT official practice test and finished another set of practice test with her book. She did well in the first one, however, when she meets something new like new definition, she is not very confident with that. Overall, I think she is a smart girl with certain knowledge of math, but also she has motivation to learn. I think that within several week's practice, she can do better in the SAT."
"This session was mostly devoted to helping with homework. I explained the general use of comparison methods in Java (equals / compareTo). We implemented this for two classes provided by the professor, discussing some general object-oriented topics as well."
