Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student continues to excel in employing the various testing strategies we've reviewed. She is focusing on how to pick problems to focus her time and attention on during the exam."
"We began by reviewing the assigned vocabulary and homework. The student seems particularly confident with math, but after completing the math review questions, I wanted to spend some time reviewing any additional concept areas of math that might still be unclear (in order to complete this stage of work and move on to the next stage). We spent this time focusing mostly on word problems, and I tried to emphasize that the main challenge (as they are typically presented in the exam) is the process of translating the information as it is presented in the format of the question into the math concepts that are clearer and we are more familiar with. I think he is making good progress in his handling of this challenge. We concluded the session by spending a bit of time working on the issue of timing and time management. We talked about some strategies and went through some introductory work in applying it to questions. Going forward, I think we are in a place where we can spend less time focusing on content review and question strategies, and more time focusing on time management and how to turn that issue to his advantage. We are in a good place to move forward!"
"Today, the student and I started off with some reading comprehension. I went over the importance of marking up the passages-- circling or underlining key words and jotting quick notes. This helps her create a road map for when she goes back to answer questions. She likes to work fast, so marking it up wasn't entirely natural, but she was willing to try and did a very good job. Afterwards, we switched to math and did some mixed practice. She's excellent with straightforward evaluation questions, so we are focusing on multi-step questions, which can present a bit of a question mark for her at times."
