Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Session Nine Tutoring Review During the student's eighth session we focused on Tutoring Goal(s) 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6, which involved problem solving, reinforcing studying algebra, developing problem solving techniques, gaining proficiency in solving word problems, building confidence, and reviewing her homework assignments. Below is a synopsis of the topics we reviewed: The quadratic equation, its graph, and the various applicable transformations. We reviewed and practiced how to solve word problems and how to create equations from the information given using a special technique of direct translation of each phrase into a mathematical equivalent. We practiced converting units of measure into the appropriate units for each problem. We worked a few examples of solving equations with more than one of the same variable and solving multivariable equations for the required variable. We completed her homework assignments. Homework and our Plan for Session X: Our next session is scheduled for Sunday at 11am. I asked her to review the algebra cancellations that occurred during a few of the problems involving more than one of the same variable in a given equation. I asked her to read over the textbook chapters covering the more difficult concepts of combined inverse and reciprocal values of the given variables. Sunday we will have a brief overview of any concepts that she may not have understood from her homework, and then we will focus on new assignments and exam preparation. Notes: She did a tremendous job today, and she worked very hard in mastering all of the new techniques that we are learning. She is such an incredibly bright young lady, and I'm confident that she will be nothing short of brilliant in any field she may choose!"
"I created a practice quiz for the student. He took the quiz and we went over his answers. He understands the concepts very well."
"This afternoon we did a continuation of our calculus review from the morning. We covered limits in a lot of detail. We also covered integration, the fundamental theorem of calculus, and derivatives."
"The student is making great progress with his review on college algebra. He remembers a great breadth of material from algebra, and this I am glad to see. Today, we specifically reviewed logarithms and exponentials. We also went over further attributes of functions, including domain, range, and inverses. For our session on Tuesday, I asked that he complete all of the problems in his review book for the college algebra exam. The test is on Wednesday, so Tuesday will be our last session."
"The following was covered today: a discussion of difficult concepts of the homework, practicing technical work in differentiation, and interpretation of the first and second derivatives. The student showed great interest and willingness to do extra work to make sure he improved. He will finish a new topic for HW, and we will meet for an extra session before the test."
"We covered integration by parts and u-substitution. The student was doing well with the material. She had a positive attitude. She is going to review homework and quizzes for extra practice."
