Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Session Fourteen Tutoring Review During the student's fourteenth session we focused on Tutoring Goal(s) 2, 3, 4, and 5, which involved teaching her to problem solve, building confidence, working on her homework, and identifying areas that she may not have understood during her professor's lectures. This session focused on reviewing algebra vocabulary and problems solving skills outlined below. We studied the algebraic vocabulary that had been covered so far, and practiced giving definitions as well as examples of each vocabulary word. We practiced FOILing binomial equations, factoring quadratics, and solving quadratics for their zeros. Homework and our Plan for Session XV: Our next session is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23rd, at 6pm. We will review her algebra homework, exam if it has been returned, and any physics homework and/or lecture material where she may have questions. We will review more physics concepts and how to use, set-up, and apply the equations she is learning in class. Notes: Once again she did a phenomenal job focusing on her math studies, and she really seems to be gaining confidence! I am searching for methods to help resolve test anxiety, and I hope to find something that will help her soon! It is always such a pleasure to teach her!"
"The student received package on solving a system of two linear equations by the graphical method and by substitution, so we worked with these exercise problems. He did good in general, as he learned how graphical method can be used. We also discussed fractions and how to apply the method of substitution. I also found that he generally performs better and is more focused when I give him a time constraint to challenge him. I shall experiment with more to help him focus."
"We went over chapter 8 beginnings, which included radical simplification and quadratic formula manipulation. The student completed all of the problems with only a few questions along the way."
"We worked on the student's algebra assignment (solving quadratics by completing the square) and then worked on graphing radical functions."
"The student got a 48/50 on the first part of his test. He is taking the second part tomorrow. The 2nd part of the test is on solving quadratic equations from word problems. We reviewed different types of word problems to prepare for the test"
"We worked on finding the equilibrium constant expression given a chemical equation. We then moved onto evaluating equilibrium constant expressions given the molarity of the chemical species. The student was able to do these problems with ease."
