Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had a lot of homework today. She began with a worksheet over finding the equations, domains, and ranges of each side of these polygons on the x-y plane. These were multi-step problems and took some time for her to get through. Then she did the back of the worksheet, which covered finding equations of lines from 2 points/ 1 point and a slope and finding the domains and ranges of said lines. Then she worked on an application word problem on linear equations. She did not make it to the final worksheet over matching equations of lines with their graphs, but I gave her instructions on how to systematically match them up, so she should be able to complete it on her own."
"We completed material (~3 subject areas) dating back from mid October to the current. We focused on identifying geometric and arithmetic sequences and defining their equations based on given word problems. We then covered transformations of graphing functions and finished with solving algebraic expressions dealing with exponents."
"Session Eleventh Tutoring Review During the student's eleventh session we focused on Tutoring Goal(s) 1, 2, 3, and 4, which involved teaching her to problem solve, building confidence, filling in any gaps in her prior education, identifying areas that she may not have understood during her professor's lectures, and preparing for her upcoming algebra examination. This session focused heavily on reviewing several algebra and core math concepts outlined below. We spent the majority of our session reviewing algebraic equations, math vocabulary, and her review sheet. We worked on solving algebraic equations with x in more than one term, FOILing, solving multivariable equations for the given variable, creating and solving word problems, equations. We reviewed long division, decimal placement when dividing numbers, scientific notation, and large number multiplication. Homework and our Plan for Session XII: Our next session is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8th, at 7pm. We will review her Exam if she receives it by then, any homework she may have in algebra, and any physics homework she may need help on. We will review more physics concepts and how to use, set-up, and apply the equations she is learning in class. Notes: She worked very, very hard today, and focused incredibly well! I kept her working hard till 5:30pm without realizing the time. She did very well today, and I'm proud of her! I'm so proud of how much effort she gave towards her math review, and I hope she keeps up the great work!"
"Today we worked on some word problems that use systems of equations to solve geometry problems. This included problems describing a relationship between two complementary or supplementary angles or the relationship between the lengths and widths of a rectangle."
"We worked on how to 'complete the square' in problems that present binomials, trinomials, and polynomials. By the end of the session, he had a very good understanding of how to approach these problems."
"The student breezed through the lesson prepared for today. We discussed exponential growth, compound interest, and exponential decay. He knew the formulas well and had no difficulty calculating correctly."
